Long-lasting performance with Intersleek

Last week, the car ferry Barøy has been docked at Harstad Mek. Verksted AS (Hamek), and the result after a simple wash speaks for itself. The hull appears almost as good as new – despite having been in continuous operation since it was treated with Intersleek 1100SR back in 2017.

Intersleek is an advanced, silicone-based surface treatment developed to reduce friction and prevent fouling on ship hulls. Unlike traditional antifoulings, Intersleek does not contain biocides, making it an environmentally friendly alternative that also provides significant operational benefits. The technology contributes to lower fuel consumption, higher speed potential and reduced maintenance requirements – and not least, cleaner and more sustainable shipping.

Barøy is a good example of how long-term investment in modern hull treatment pays off. After eight years of operation with Intersleek 1100SR, the vessel only needed a simple wash to be ready for new assignments at sea. This underlines how effective and durable the solution is, even in demanding Norwegian conditions.
