At the farthest edge of the sea gap in Sunnmøre lies the island community of Herøy. Once a fishing village with a good harbor for boats coming from near and far with large catches of herring. The beginning of what would eventually develop into a world-leading maritime cluster in offshore and fisheries.
In the early 1980s, fishing boat owner Sigurd Teige saw the need for a paint agent among the emerging shipping companies and shipyards. With his experience from the fishing industry, he understood the importance of protecting ships against harsh weather conditions and ensuring performance and longevity. This is how Westing was born, more than 40 years ago.
Today, Westing has grown to become one of Norway's leading suppliers of marine and industrial paint. From 1985 to 2013, Westing was a regional dealer for Jotun Marine Coatings. However, Westing outgrew its role as a regional distributor, developing a strong position in the market in Northwest Norway and Trøndelag.
In 2013, Westing entered into an agreement with AkzoNobel to become the exclusive distributor for International marine paint in Norway. This agreement marked an important milestone for the company's development, as it opened up new markets and a larger geographical area. The collaboration model between Westing and AkzoNobel has worked very well, and Westing has gradually taken larger market shares and developed into AkzoNobel's largest distributor in Europe.
Westing is part of Teige Gruppen, a corporation that owns and operates several companies in various industries such as fisheries, real estate, trade, and health. Westing is a subsidiary of Kaston AS, which is part of Teige Gruppen. This means that Westing operates under the umbrella of Teige Gruppen and works closely with other companies in the group. Teige Gruppen is a family company with a long history of family involvement and has developed over generations.
Westing currently has 20 employees, and its headquarters are located at Westinghuset in Eggesbønes in Herøy. Westing also has branches in Harstad and Bergen, and abroad, subsidiaries of Westing have been established in both Denmark and Poland. During 2025, Teige Gruppen and its companies will move their headquarters to Hareid.
Westing has a clear strategy for the future based on their long experience in the market. Westing has gained a good understanding of market trends and customer needs and will continue to be the preferred partner in marine and industrial paint, delivering reliability and quality products. Westing will also focus on investing in human capital, system development, and competence enhancement to adapt to changing market conditions and ensure that customer needs are well taken care of - for another 40 years.
