Westing supports the restoration of Søblomsten – an important piece of Norwegian coastal history
Westing is proud to contribute paint and surface products to the restoration of Søblomsten, a hunting galley built in 1864 by Lars Jensen Hammeraas in Vestnes. The vessel is an important cultural monument from Norwegian coastal shipping and was protected in 2020.

The ship Søblomsten has had a long life as a cargo vessel, both in international traffic and along the coast, before being put ashore after a collision in 1954. Today it is being restored by Båtbyggermuseet in Vestnes – just metres from the place where it was built over 160 years ago. The work is carried out by volunteers in collaboration with professional groups such as the Hardanger Fartøyvernsenter and Riksantikvaren. Planned launching of Søblomsten is April 18th.
Our contribution will ensure a solid and authentic finish that will withstand future use. For Westing, this is an opportunity to support local engagement, traditional craftsmanship and the preservation of a unique part of Norwegian maritime history.
